Q: What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned about leading in a challenging environment?

A: Transparency and honesty are key in challenging times. First, give an honest assessment of what needs to be changed and how it will get done. Next, provide a compelling vision of the future and how it benefits the people impacted. Finally, act swiftly and decisively.

Q: What’s the most valuable leadership advice you’ve ever been given?

A: Say what you mean and do what you say. Trustworthiness is the most important attribute of a leader. Great people will not follow someone they can’t trust.

Q: What’s the best decision you’ve ever made as a business leader?

A: The best decisions I’ve made are always related to the people I hire. Great businesses are made up of great people. I take extraordinary measures to attract and retain the best people for every position.
