BKM Capital Partners Named “Best Place to Work” by Orange County Business Journal

July 5, 2022 – Newport Beach, CA-based BKM Capital Partners, a vertically integrated institutional fund manager, today announced that it was named to Orange County Business Journal’s Best Workplaces list for a second time. This year’s Best Workplaces list is the result of a wide-ranging and comprehensive measurement of companies that have excelled in creating exceptional workplaces and company culture.

The award recognizes workplaces with people-centered cultures that foster employee growth and advancement at all levels. Cultures where employees go above and beyond in their work, advocate for the organization, and intend to stay into the future. The 2022 rankings are based on employee survey results obtained through the Business Journal’s Best Places to Work partner Workforce Research Group.

“I’m really proud of the fact that as BKM has grown over the years, we’ve been able to maintain one of our biggest assets: our company culture,” said Brian Malliet, CEO and Founder of BKM. “Our biggest strength is our people and our ability to attract and keep this extremely talented group of professionals is a top company objective. This award helps validate all of the work we’ve put into fostering a supportive and rewarding work environment.”

BKM has a vibrant culture of best-in-class professionals who are passionate about their individual roles and the company’s common objective to grow and transform the light industrial landscape. It’s a high performance, dynamic culture that attracts individuals who value an entrepreneurial environment, team-oriented dynamic, and embrace continuous improvement, creativity, and new ideas.

Mason Waite, Director of Asset Management and BKM employee of six years adds, “I’ve continually been impressed with BKM’s commitment to balancing financial profitability alongside its genuine care for its personnel. Employees are actively solicited at every level for ways to make the organization and their role in it better. The commitment to open conversation, feedback, and actively implementing changes results in an entity that is better than any one person can define or build. Flexibility is a mindset and it is one that is encouraged and widely adopted at BKM. As a result, the Company has been both extremely profitable and created a culture that is fun, dynamic, and supportive.”

BKM set off with a specific strategy and vision for their new venture in 2013, and now in 2022, has successfully grown BKM Capital Partners and Management Company from two employees to over 90 in 13 offices, and acquired over 70 assets with current AUM of $1.8 billion.

BKM Capital Partners growth, maturity and appeal with institutional investors is reflected in its strong market position in the multi-use logistics and small and mid-bay light industrial asset class. Amidst the turbulent backdrop of a pandemic, BKM’s success was clearly evident when it fully realized its first institutional fund in September 2021, which generated exceptional results and provided confirmation for its investment thesis. The $261-million portfolio recapitalization of BKM Industrial Value Fund I, along with prior asset sales, delivered returns to Fund I investors that well exceeded targets.

BKM celebrated this fund recapitalization by giving bonuses to each and every employee at the company across all six states at every level based on tenure. The bonus was in addition to year-end bonuses and was made possible through the strong returns generated from the monetization of BKM’s first fund. By giving back to the people that made that success happen, it demonstrated the innovative ways BKM’s leadership team is taking to build loyalty and create a positive and rewarding work atmosphere.

BKM joins 28 other honorees who were selected based on the quality of employee responses to an independent survey conducted by Workforce Research Group. Submissions were evaluated across a wide variety of topics, including company culture, management effectiveness, perks, and fostering employee growth. Each organization’s benefits were also audited to determine overall score and ranking.

The following are some of the anonymous reviews collected by the OCBJ Best Workplaces administered employee survey:

  • The biggest strengths in the company are the people, both in management and working professionals. The company excels at motivating people and bringing out the best in what they do.

  • The culture at BKM is “employees are our best asset”, a saying literally from the mouth of the CEO. I have never worked at a company that has that philosophy and it truly makes coming to work rewarding.

  • BKM’s company culture is extremely unique. The team-oriented dynamic is embraced throughout each of the departments. The company holds monthly huddle meetings to ensure employees are not only supported through open Q&A but are also kept up-to-speed with broader business initiatives, strategic goals, as well as upcoming events.

  • The company culture is the BEST part of BKM. Brian Malliet makes it an important priority to invest time in team building. I believe that culture starts from the top, just like anything else, and that’s apparent at BKM.

BKM’s recognition as one of the Best Workplaces is the latest in a series of awards that BKM has won for its workplace and culture.
